Yoga brands like Lululemon, Athleta, and Prana may get all the name recognition and be highly valued in the fitness marketplace, but let’s face it, a lot of people can’t, or don’t want to, spend $80-$100 on a pair of yoga pants. And they should never feel like not having expensive pants is barrier to doing yoga. Not so long ago, loincloths (dhotis) and leotards were the norm. That said, baggy t-shirts and old running shorts from college don’t make for the best yoga experience. You want something that you feel comfortable in, that doesn’t need to be adjusted every time you do downward dog, and that won’t inadvertently flash your neighbor. Happily, cute, affordable yoga clothing is widely available. There’s even a few eco-conscious brands that fit the bill. Here’s a look at the best options.

1. Old Navy

Budget shoppers know that Old Navy is a good place to get essentials like tees and leggings. Their activewear line features a variety of yoga pants for about $20 and a seasonal rotation of support tanks, many of which also come in plus sizes, not to mention petites and tall. Their Perfect Ribbed Tank, which isn’t even considered activewear, has been my yoga go-to for years.  More »

2. H&M

You’ll find H&M’s yoga wear in their Bodymind department. This Swedish trend-driven retailer is well established in Europe and is expanding throughout the United States. They now have online shopping in the U.S. too. Your basic yoga tights, pants, sports bras and tanks are on offer, with many items under $20. Color blocking seems to be in the forecast for next season, with a slight chance of stripes. More »

3. C9 by Champion at Target

It doesn’t get any more convenient than buying your yoga clothing at Target. Where else can you pick up some toilet paper, toothpaste, and yoga pants all in one stop? The C9 line goes beyond the basics too, with strappy tanks, cut-out tees, and apres-yoga wrap sweaters.   More »

4. Forever 21

Did you know that mall-favorite Forever 21 carries workout clothing? You may want to keep in mind that the average customer for this retailer is probably a lanky teenager, but if that describes you, there are some good bargains to be had. Many bras, tights, and tops are under $15. I recently saw a one-piece workout jumpsuit on their website. Who doesn’t want that? More »

5. Threads 4 Thought

Can you really get ethically sourced, sustainable yoga clothing on a tight budget? Sort of. While Threads 4 Thought has a nice line of activewear, the prices are in the $40-$50 range. However, there are some deals to be found in their everyday tanks and tees, which start at just $10. Try before you buy at many Whole Foods stores.  More »

But Wait, There’s More!

Shopping at your favorite designer discount department store is another way to get brand-name yogawear on the cheap. Check the racks at Kohl’s, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, and even Costco for deals on last season’s stuff or overstock.
